WHEREAS, Virginia Morgan Obrig, a member of this body for twenty years passed away on October 8, 2006 at the age of ninety-seven, and
WHEREAS, Ginny Obrig served District 7 with distinction from 1986 until 2002, after previously serving since 1982 as a member of District 10.  She represented our district on three committees: Education, Social Services and the Health and Environment Committee, which later became know as the Health and Human Services Committee.  For three terms, Ginny had the honor of being the Secretary of the Education Committee. Her expertise in this field made her an invaluable member of the committee. She had taught at Greenwich High School, had volunteered on the Glenville School PTA, and was a member of the Board of the Association of Retired Teachers.  Ginny believed in the importance of strong Academic achievement and is known to a generation of students who enrolled in her rigorous SAT Prep Course that she conducted for ten years after her retirement in 1974.  Ginny dedicated many hours as a volunteer at Nathaniel Witherell. She served as President of the Auxiliary and was a member of the Witherell Board of Directors. Her hands-on experience in the field of aging gave her unique insight as a member of the Greenwich Adult Day Care Committee.  Ginny served as President of Church Women United of Greenwich and was a member of the Chaplaincy Services of Greenwich.  Our District 7 delegation was fortunate to have as members both Ginny and her daughter Alice who contributed her professional knowledge of health care. The Obrigs brought both expertise and compassion to our District 7 discussions on items pertaining to education, social needs and health issues.   Greenwich has lost a citizen who served us all in the best tradition of the volunteer Representative Town Meeting.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED  that the entire membership of the Greenwich Representative Town Meeting join District 7 in honoring Virginia Obrig’s exemplary and productive life and further extend our sympathy to the Obrig family.
